Conflict Resolution with Family During Planning

May 7, 2026

Family conflicts are common. Use these techniques to navigate disagreements respectfully.

Wedding planning brings out opinions. Listen first. Ask your family member to explain their perspective. Say "Tell me more." Do not interrupt. Validate their feelings. Do not immediately agree or disagree. Say "Thank you for sharing your perspective. Let me think about it." If a parent is paying, they have a say. Ask for their top three priorities. Use that information to guide decisions. If you and your partner disagree, take a 20-minute break. Do not argue in front of family. If a compromise is impossible, choose a third option. Consult a neutral third party like a wedding planner. The most important rule is to prioritize your relationship with your partner.
