Catering to Dietary Restrictions
May 6, 2026
Almost every guest list includes someone with allergies or preferences. Learn how to plan a menu that makes everyone feel included.
Catering to dietary restrictions is a must for a gracious host. Include a line on your RSVP card for allergies: "Please list any dietary restrictions." Common ones include vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, nut-free, and dairy-free. Work with your caterer to create options for each. For vegetarians, a stuffed portobello mushroom or vegetable lasagna is satisfying. For vegans, a grain bowl with roasted vegetables works well. For gluten-free, offer a corn or rice-based dish with sauces thickened with cornstarch. For nut-free, avoid pesto, satay, and many desserts. Label all dishes clearly with small signs listing the name and allergens. Train your serving staff so they know which dishes are safe.
